My Pick: Kentucky Derby Fashion & Southern Tradition

Shame about the dangling feather, but I still love this racegoer's hat. Hope she didn't get caught in the downpour at Churchill Downs earlier. It's sure to be a sloppy track.

  1. Too funny, that hat. I suppose the wearer would rather be splatted all over cyberspace with a feather under her eye than with spinach on her teeth, but still, . . . If she had to make a run for it, I hope she didn't lose that low-hanging earring.

  2. I'm glad you clarified that that low-hanging feather was just that because I thought it was that black tar stuff footballers and skiers wear to ward off the sun. I was thinking how far cultural taste can bend to find attractiveness if even on a beautiful woman with black tar under her eye. Sort of like low-hanging baggy trousers; culture has really done a deep bend on that one.

  3. Sorry, but that caterpillar-wide, red lower lip has to go

  4. Low-hanging feather is right; at first I thought she had a black eye. Her lips look a bit messy. A good liner would help.

  5. Still, I love the color. It makes me want to trot out my red lipstick.

  6. No, they wear blinders so they can't see the hats when they are running.

  7. The hat-wearers' brims are so wide they can't see anything either.

  8. I think some of them are actual flying saucers.

  9. LOL! Some of them are actually hoop skirts that they put on their head.
